Composition of Silicone Fluids


Silicone fluids are undiluted liquid siloxane polymers. The two main silicone fluid structures are linear polydimethylsiloxanes (PDMS) and cyclic volatile methylsiloxanes (VMS). The chains of a polydimethylsiloxane fluid can contain from two to well over 1,000 silicon atoms. The longer the chain, the greater the degree of polymerization, the higher the molecular weight, and the higher the viscosity of the fluid. The higher the viscosity, the slower the flow.

XIAMETER silicone fluid subgroups

  • XIAMETER® polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fluids

    XIAMETER polydimethylsiloxane fluids are available in a range of viscosities and used in a variety of applications. Polydimethylsiloxane fluids are known in the beauty and personal care industry by their INCI name, “dimethicone.”

  • XIAMETER® volatile methylsiloxane fluids

    XIAMETER volatile methylsiloxane (VMS) fluids are volatile, non-reactive silicone fluids. They include both very-low-viscosity linear polydimethylsiloxanes (≤ 2 cSt) and cyclosiloxanes, and have been used for more than 20 years in antiperspirants and hair and skin care products.

    XIAMETER methylhydrogen silicone fluids (polymethylhydrogen siloxanes) are reactive fluids that can be mixed with other materials to create products for many uses.

  • XIAMETER organofunctional silicone fluids

    XIAMETER organofunctional silicone fluids substitute some of the methyl groups on a silicone polymer with other functional groups. This adds organic benefits without losing the valuable properties associated with traditional dimethyl siloxanes. XIAMETER brand offers organofunctional silicones with alkylaryl, amino, amido and polyether functionalities.
