Adobe PDF File Format

We are using the file format, Adobe® Portable Document Format (“PDF”), for datasheets, regulations, forms, and other documents we must provide in image format. To work with PDF documents, you will need the free Adobe® Acrobat® Reader. This Reader allows you to view, navigate and print all Adobe PDFs across all major computing platforms.

In order to view and read all our PDF files, we recommend Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher. If you don't already have this Reader:

  • Here is the text version Adobe Acrobat downloads page. You can download versions for most operating systems in several languages from here.
  • Alternatively, you can go to the more automated form version Adobe downloads page.

Frequently Asked Questions about Adobe Acrobat

Why are we using Adobe Acrobat?

Adobe Acrobat allows us to create documents in several applications and then save them as an Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The document file name will always have the “.pdf” extension and will appear with the Adobe icon . The only requirement on your end is that you must have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer.

The Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can open these PDF files, is available for Macintosh, Windows 95/98/2000/NT/XP, OS/2, UNIX, Silicon Graphics, LINUX, Sun SPARC,Palm OS® , Pocket PC - almost all operating systems.

What the Adobe Acrobat is not.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is not a word processing file. You cannot open it in your word processor.

I have the Reader -- how do I save the PDF  file?

It depends on what browser you have and how it has been set up. Select the file and a window should appear asking you what to do with the file. You want to choose some sort of “save” option. Remember where you save it.

How can I read an Acrobat file?

Remember, Adobe Acrobat files are not word processing files. After you have saved all the PDF files you need, go to the Adobe Acrobat Reader Program and start/run/double-click to get the program running. You open documents the same way you do in most programs: go to the file menu, find the PDF file, and open it. You can print the file as well.
